| I am Angela, the
Costumer, Coordinator, Performer/Model, Administrative Assistant
and Web Designer for FoxMoon Productions. I am the creator of the tails we use
for our Merfolk performances at various fairs and events and the
maker of the tails we
sell here online to "Make Your Mermaid Dreams Come True" |
|
| For many years there has been a mermaid at
the Norman Medieval Fair at a bridge known as the Beggar's Bridge. The
First mermaid to appear there was Madeleine Lambert, a beautiful Mermaid
with a shimmering tail who enchanted the fair crowd for 6 years. After
Madeleine retired, the joy of having a mermaid became the
responsibility of various volunteers, each taking turns to wear a
beautiful sequined tail made by one Amy Kercher. Amy and a number of
other volunteers held this tradition for several years. |

At the 2000 fair I was allowed to be one of
those volunteers, and that is when my passion for performing as a mer
began. Unfortunately, I do not have a picture of this performance yet.
Pictures before 2001 are very limited in our collection. |
| In 2001, for my second performance as a
mermaid there, I decided to try my hand at creating my own tail, a gold
one. Doing so allowed a wonderful friend of mine to be able to wear the
other tail. This would be the first time two adult mermaids had ever
been present at the same time. |

The first tail I
made. Mermaid pictured was known as Pearl most often. Now known
as Garnette. |

Commonly mistaken for
Ariel, was the mermaid most commonly known as Coral |
|
|
| The next year, I attempted once again to
create a better, more versatile tail. I attempted a few other designs
before I found our current and best designs which are suitable for land
and swimming. This could not have been accomplished without the help of
a former Weeki Wachee Mermaid
who gave me a pointer or two on materials. Our tails are in no way a
duplicate of the famous Weeki Wachee tails. They are my own original
design. |
|
When I had my tail design figured out we spoke with the fair
coordinator again and she seemed very pleased with our ideas and the tails.
Our first appearance as the Merfolk of the Norman
Medieval Fair was at the 2002 Norman Mardi Gras Parade where we
won the trophy for "The King's Favorite."
|
|
| Then we had our fair performance and brought
a whole new style and flair to the mermaids as the MERFOLK at the
bridge. It was the first year that the bridge was populated on both
sides by mermen, mermaids and even merchildren of all ages. Now we are a
full troupe of merfolk, including a few guards, photographers and more
|
| Since then the location of the fair has moved
and we now have a sunken ship in a playground we dubbed Merfolk Cove that
we get to set up with the Merfolk each year at Reaves Park, in Norman,
OK. However, though
this site is based solely on our Merfolk, they are not our only performances. We also
perform as other fae creatures and even historical characters as far
back as the 6th Century Romano-Britain world. Contact us for more
information on that if you are interested. Also, if you want further
information about booking us for any of our performances, especially
that of the Merfolk, or you want a tail of your own for yourself or for
someone you love, contact us.
